Common questions

Do my receipts get uploaded anywhere?

No. Scanning, text recognition, and categorization all happen on your device, and the images and data stay there. See the privacy policy.

Can I throw away the paper receipts?

The IRS accepts electronic records provided you can produce legible copies on demand. TaxTrail's Receipt archive export (Summary → Export) gives you a single file containing every receipt image plus a spreadsheet of the data — keep that somewhere durable and you have that copy. This is general information, not tax advice; check with your tax professional.

How do I back up my receipts?

Summary → Export → Receipt archive. It produces a zip with your images, a CSV, and a full data file, then hands it to the share sheet so you can save it to iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or anywhere else you like.

A receipt was read incorrectly. What should I do?

Correct it in the review screen before saving — every field is editable. If a particular store parses badly, that's worth reporting: Summary → Export → Parser diagnostics and send us the file. It contains the raw recognized text so the parser can be fixed for that receipt layout.

Long receipts don't fit in one photo.

The scanner takes multiple pages. Capture the receipt in sections and they're read together as one receipt.

What do I get with Pro?

Unlimited scans, plus Excel, TXF, and QuickBooks exports. The free tier includes 10 scans a month with full parsing, categorization, and CSV export.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are billed by Apple: iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling there stops future renewals.

I bought Pro but the app doesn't recognize it.

Tap Restore purchases on the Pro screen. If it still doesn't appear, email us with the Apple ID email used for the purchase.
